Position Responsibilities
Areas of responsibilities for the Director of Music Ministry include excellent organ and piano offerings for all services and weekly choir rehearsals and other musical ensembles as needed, including our bell choir, coordinating music for weddings and funerals with families and the pastor; accompanying and directing the choirs; planning special music for the traditional service in consultation with the pastor, musicians and worship team; assisting in the design of and directing the music for a non-traditional worship service which will be creative and experimental in nature; providing music assistance to young students enrolled in the church's early childhood learning center; attending appropriate meetings including church council and staff meetings. Responsibilities include the supervision of other musical staff and their contributions to the St. Paul UCC music program, overseeing the music library, contributing organizational skills to church-related concert programs, and other community outreach.
POSITION PROFILE - DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES
-administer the church music program; oversight of responsibilities designated to music staff and ensemble members
-establish goals and plan of organization to create and implement development of the church music program including varied styles of worship
-be personally responsible to enlist music group members within the church and from the community
- in consultation with the pastor, select hymns and service music and plan worship with other staff and committees
-maintain interest and foster development in the following areas: music for youth, young adults, middle and older adults; choral music, organ, piano, hand bells, and contemporary worship
-serve as a resource to committees other than the music committee and be available for conferences on an individual basis with persons seeking help and service
-keep regular specified office hours at the church
-be personally responsible for hiring substitutes for all absences including vacations and illnesses
-provide direction for the implementation of sound reinforcement during worship services and supplemental programs, i.e. Fine Arts series and community concerts
-attend and participate in stated meetings, annual meetings, budget hearings, church council, and staff meetings
-during weekly rehearsals, lead persons in the preparation of music for worship services
-prepare publicity for special programs
-order music and submit bills to the appropriate church official
